Classes
Both classes will soon finish for a short break, and will resume again on September 7th with Helen of Covert Bling and formerly of Mersin taking the reins for 7 weeks.

You can come along to the Middle Eastern Dance or Belly Dance class fropm 2 -3pm, and/or join in with the Tribal Belly dance class from 3 - 4pm.  For more information about either class please click here.

If you've never been along before or just used to occasionally come along  you'll be pleased to know that you can still *drop-in*.  During the classes Helen will go over some of the same principles each week as well as teaching and drilling a new move or two, so there's lots of reason to come along and get involved.

Please note that there has been a slight increase in the cost of the Improvised Tribal Style class.  This now runs on the same principle as the Middle Eastern Dance class.  You can either come along on a drop-in basis and pay £5 per hour, or you can pre-pay for a minimum of 4 classes and pay just £4 per class.    PLEASE note that if you pre-pay and are then unable to attend a class I cannot offer a refund.   If the class is cancelled by the teacher or the centre your pre-payment will run in to the next class.

Covert Bling perform at the MADN Summer Showcase
Sunday 13th July 2008

We all thoroughly enjoyed dancing at the Summer MADN event and I really enjoyed chatting to all of you who came along to the stall in the Souk.  This fabulous event featured the new MADN chairperson Afra al Kahira and many other talented dancers, with special guests Johara exhibiting their unique fusion style.

Photographs of the event will be featured in an upcoming edition of Mosaic magazine.

Covert Bling Performance at the Hathor Hafla
Saturday 28th June 2008
Covert Bling attended and performed at the always enjoyable Hathor Hafla in Kidlington, Oxfordhsire at the weekend.  It was a fabulous evening of dance, with many beautiful performances  and costumes.  The highlight of the evening (apart from us!) was the always entertaining Ozgen who put on a great show!

To see a picture of Covert Bling in our Tribal finery go to the Gallery.  More pics can be seen here.

And to see us in action, click here to check out the latest YouTube vid.

Covert Bling Performance at RISC, Reading
Friday 6th June 2008
Our performance at the Volunteers Party held at RISC, London Street, Reading on Friday June 6th seemed to go  down well with the party goers .   After starting with a Lebanese group number three of our dancers went on to give fabulous solo performances and we finished the set off with an improvised group Tribal dance.  Thanks to everyone for their great feedback!

Friday Classes are no more......
Regretfully, Friday evening classes at Waterloo Meadows have been cancelled for the foreseeable future.  Although the class was shaping up nicely as a great Family Friendly class where dancers could bring their babes-in-arms and children who wanted to learn, the lack of attendees has made this no longer viable to keep running.
Please contact me if you have any questions about the demise of this class.

Covert Bling Performance
Saturday May 17th 2008, Swindon

Myself
and two other members of Covert Bling were able to attend a small Hafla in Swindon last weekend.  Along with the event organiser we were the only dancers willing to dance to the rhythms of the two live drummers.   We thoroughly enjoyed the experience as it's been two years since we last performed with drummers rather than recorded music.

I have to confess that this time around we were much more confident at doing so - but hey, maybe that's because first time round we had only been dancing Tribal style for 3 months, and it was our very first performance as a troupe!

Many dancers may baulk at the thought of live drumming in a performance situation but hopefully we showed that we love the improvisational aspect of the dance.  And for all of those that question whether we are truly improvising and not choreographed?  We honestly improvise on the spot!

Announcements
Although I shall be unable to be there, Emma Pyke and other members of Covert Bling will be teaching at Celebrating Dance in Devon, hosted by Afra al Kahira.

Watch this pace for more details of up-coming performances.
